Canada is about to spend billions on new oil sands projects, pipelines, nuclear and fossil-fuel power stations, hydroelectric dams, solar projects, and wind farms. But as we prepare to generate more energy, it makes sense to save energy first.

We need to get serious about energy efficiency.
The global economy is struggling and governments want to create jobs. This is a huge opportunity for Canadian governments to help Canadian families save energy. Making our homes more energy-efficient creates jobs in all communities. We urgently need to send a clear message to decision makers that it’s time for Canada to save energy first.

I don’t know about where you live, but here in Sudbury it’s raining, which reminds me that Fall is coming. It’s time to give away a CanSpec sweatshirt, hoodie, toque and wine kit!
If you remember way back when, I posted a picture of our collection of coffee cups that we decided to divert from landfill and began composting. Be the person to come closest to guessing how many cups you think we diverted from November 17th 2010 to May 5th 2011 and you’ll win the the sweatshirt, hoodie, toque and wine kit (includes wine opener, bottle stopper and neck protector – keeps the red wine from dripping down the bottle). We had about 19 people working in the office during that time.
Comment below, or go to our facebook.com/canspec page to comment there. Contest ends September 1st. Good luck!

The beginning: November 2010.

The End: May 2011.

If you’re planning to replace or add insulation under the siding of your home, and want to get the grant for it, DO NOT remove the siding before we get there. If we get to a home for an energy assessment and siding has been removed, we are not allowed to conduct the assessment. The house is considered uninhabitable without siding.
The golden rule in this program: don’t start renovating anything until we get there!

It’s official, as of today, the ecoENERGY Retrofit Program has returned. It’s pretty much the same as before, with up to $5,000 in non-taxable grants per homeowner available. The grants are listed here.
At this time, we do not have enough information to book appointments. We will take calls as of Friday afternoon and start booking as early as Monday, but we cannot book appointments yet.
However, if you are ready, the first step in the new program is to register with Natural Resources Canada. You can do this by filling out a form online here, or you can call 1-800-O-Canada to get your registration number. Make a note of this number and then give us a call Friday afternoon and we’ll get you booked in!
Thanks for your patience.
