Ontario Building Code Energy Assessments for Housing (SB-12)
As of January 2012, all newly built houses must achieve an EnerGuide for New Houses rating of 80 before the house can pass a final building inspection. Homebuilders, whether corporate or individual, can hire CanSpec to review housing plans and model the home to determine whether or not the house would meet the minimum requires if built according to the submitted plans. Based on our findings, homebuilders can then make necessary changes to their plans or proceed as planned. This pre-construction modeling means that the builder will not have to make changes to the building after it is built. This also ensures that the building—if built as planned—achieves the EnerGuide 80 rating, saving the builder time, effort and money.

Energy Assessments including the Blower Door Test– Service for any home owner (single or multi)
The CanSpec energy assessment lasts about two hours and includes a thorough examination of everything to do with energy in the home–insulation levels, hot water systems, toilets, windows and doors, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, and air tightness. We perform a blower door test which measures the amount of air leakage in your home, clearly identifying where draftproofing needs to be done.

ENERGY STAR for New Homes – Service for homebuilders
We can conduct all necessary testing and plan reviews to qualify a home as ENERGY STAR. As the only licensed Service Organization north of Barrie, we also offer local training to homebuilders and tradespeople on how to build an ENERGY STAR home.
Heat Loss/Heat Load Calculations – Service for HVAC industry
At the request of an HVAC company, we can produce heat loss calculations for system design, if we have conducted on an energy assessment in the customer’s house. We are BCIN registered.
Education and Consultation – Service for any individual or organization
CanSpec would be more than happy to offer educational services to your group at your convenience. We offer our expertise in all aspects of energy efficiency in the home. CanSpec can also offer general residential property advice based on our decades of experience.
