The international ENERGY STAR® symbol is a simple way for consumers to identify products that are among the most energy-efficient on the market. Only manufacturers and retailers whose products meet the ENERGY STAR criteria can label their products with this symbol.

Now, new homes can be qualified as ENERGY STAR. In order to qualify for ENERGY STAR, all elements of energy used in a home are required to be ENERGY STAR labelled, from household appliances like dishwashers and clothes washers to heating and cooling systems, insulation, windows and doors to smaller items such as light bulbs.

Why Would You Buy an ENERGY STAR Home?

More energy efficient: ENERGY STAR homes are at least 30% more efficient than a home built to building code.

Up to $500 annual savings: The savings in an ENERGY STAR home are often much more than any added monthly mortgage charges for the ENERGY STAR house vs. a regular home built to code.

Improved comfort: ENERGY STAR homes have better air quality due to fewer drafts and improved ventilation. Therefore, there are fewer pollutants in the house.

Reduced impact on the environment: ENERGY STAR homes reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately three tons per year when compared to similar homes.

Higher resale value: $8,400 on average! There is a $20 increase in value of your ENERGY STAR home for every $1 saved in annual utility bills. So, if you save $300 in energy costs, your home’s value just went up by $6,000.
